Exploring The Unique World Of Wading Birds

The BSAP and Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad organized a beautiful talk by Anita Negi on Wintering Birds – Identification of Waders at Hamburg Hall. The audiences had many questions beginning from ‘What are waders? and Do all birds migrate in winter?’ Anita Negi is an avid birdwatcher, who has been birding for over 12 years now. Her knowledge of birds is limited not just to identifying the species, but she also specializes in understanding the habitat, relating that to the existence of the species and take a holistic view of the probability of the identity of a particular species.

About Wintering Birds, Anita said that during the winters there are many birds that migrate from different parts of the world to the tropical regions to escape the cold weather and consequent shortage of food in their own breeding regions. She said that one of the types which need a lot of attention and understanding are the wading birds, referred to by birders as ‘waders’. “These birds offer a challenge to birders in terms of identification, which can be quite confusing when seen in the field but, by careful observation of certain key pointers, they are not difficult to identify,” Anita said.

Daira Hosts Art Out Of The Box

Daira Centre for Arts and Culture was back with its new edition of Functional Art exhibition. The three-day exhibition was inaugurated by SA Huda, IPS, Art Connoisseur and Patron, at the Telangana State Fine Art Gallery, Kavuri Hills. Speaking about the exhibition, Atiya Amjad, Founder-Director and Curator, said that Art Out of the Box was organised to support Daira Centre for Arts and Culture’s initiative of The Children’s Fine Gallery activities. “Over 70 artists participated in the show, extending support to the cause of the underprivileged children,” she said.

The Concept of Art Out of the Box, according to Atiya is that art has always served varied purposes and gets translated into functionality. “The progress of art from the conceptual to the material or mediumistic stage initiates the functional aspect in art. The moment an artwork is displayed it acquires the function of providing an experience, be it therapeutic or disturbing, educative or otherwise, one cannot discount the role played by art,” she said.
