Yellow-Throated Bulbul Draws In The Crowd

The BSAP and Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad presented a talk by Ashish Jha on Tri-Marriage of Science, Society and Bird. Conservationist by birth, engineer by degree, Ashish Jha chose Ornithology as his area of research. For the last two years, he has been weaving facts and data for his PhD study model on the Yellow-throated Bulbul. As legal bird-trapper, Ashish travels through the woods collecting genetic samples of the birds. When not chasing Bulbuls in wild, Ashish Jha spends his time getting data and running analysis at the Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (CSIR-CCMB) Hyderabad.

He spoke on the connection between three seemingly different areas: Science, Society and Birds. Ashish was one of the award-winning e-birders for June 2017 of the prestigious Bird Count India Award. The Hamburg Hall was filled with people, about 40 of them to meet Aashish Jha, who chased and lived with the rare yellow-throated Bulbul close up. His stories and account definitely took the audience high up into the mountains of the different forests of Telangana where it is found and at the same time gave the audience a feel of what it means to be a scientist. The presentation was followed by an interactive session with the audience.
