Group Exhibition By Women Painters

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Pegasus Art Gallery organised an Exhibition of Paintings by Women Artists for a week from March 8-15, which was inaugurated by eminent artist Thota Vaikuntam. A group of 11 artists from the city and other States displayed their works. Speaking here, Chandana Khan said that another International Women’s Day has come and the Gallery celebrates it by paying homage to women by art and through their art works.

“Women have been painting from time immemorial. The walls of the house to embroidery on clothes to a combination of art and craft for merchandise from the poor women to elie women, art has always been a means of self-expression in a world dominated by patriarchy. Quite often, the women’s voice can be heard in her paintings,” she said. Chandana added that women’s art is never homogeneous it expresses different concerns or pure aesthetics.

The participating artists included Chandana Khan, Saraswati, Jakie Lima, Dipanita, Swatosh Rohatagi, Annapurna, Padmaja Bhalerao, Monali, Sravanthi Juluri, Kavita Deuskar, Vani Devi, Sharbani Ganguli, Lopamudra, Sharmila, Archana Biswas and Avani Rao.
